Lake Forggen - Circular trail
The most popular of all tours goes around Lake Forggen. There are a few hills, but every metre you cycle is worth the view! The most beautiful spot is reached halfway through, with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle. The tour can be made shorter by taking a boat across Lake Forggen.
Distance: 34 km
Cycling time: approx. 2 hours
Tour: Very well signposted bike trail. Cycle through the pedestrian zone down to the river Lech. Turn left and follow the signs.
Flexible tour along beautiful viewpoints
The old Fürstenstraße to Tyrol
Medium difficulty tour with the option of a detour up to the border triangle (for anyone who wants to test their fitness; by mountain bike only). You then head back to Füssen via the Alatsee, with a magnificent downhill ride
Distance: approx. 20km
Cycling time: 2 hours, with border triangle 2.5 hours
Tour: Cycle to the castles. Head left past Hohenschwangau Castle via the old Fürstenstraße. On the way, you can take a right turn to the ‘Border Triangle’ viewing point. Ride to Gasthaus Schluxen on the way back, and from there via Pinswang to Vils. At the exit of Vils, turn right in the director of Alatsee. Then there’s a steep and short uphill climb. From the Alatsee guest house, you can cycle down the traffic-free trail back to Füssen.
It may not be the greatest distance, but it's quite a climb!
Gasthaus Bleckenau & Jägerhütte
Tour for hardened mountain bikers. The route via the Jägersteig down to the Plansee is technically demanding. Otherwise it mainly consists of very steep forest trails.
Distance: 10 km to Bleckenau, 15 km to the Jägerhütte
Tour: Cycle to Hohenschwangau. Turn left opposite the ticket centre and climb steeply upwards via the ‘Wasserleitungsweg’ to Jugend, the stop at the top at Neuschwanstein Castle. The route to Berggasthaus Bleckenau is somewhat more relaxing. If you’re still looking for a challenge you can carry on to the rustic Jägerhütte – another very steep climb, but worth the effort. You then rapidly descend following the same route.
